irradio - (ir rod io) - the eu, or "I", form of the Portuguese verb, irradiare, meaning to shed light on; illuminate.

Simply put: I illuminate.

"What does irradio mean?" is the most frequently asked question of this four piece sonic shape shifting band from San Diego, CA. The group was formed in 1999 by its fist-in-the-air frontman Dan Dasher and guitar-wielding co-founder Paolo Zuñiga. Dasher brings an interesting blend of chant-shouting and singing over his trademark catchy guitar riffs, while Zuñiga provides the perfect balance and counter melodies of this unique guitar team. The rhythm section of drummer Collin Tuthill and bass-guitarist/vocalist Anthony Rogers-Wright rounds out the fresh sound of the band. Tuthill provides an unbreakable foundation of rhythm which allows Rogers-Wright to incorporate thumping bass lines coalesced with melodic contours and tasty sound effects that facilitate a danceable grooviness which defies classification when united with the quirky guitar work.

"One Sound", the group's forthcoming third release, is already generating an undeniable buzz amongst local fans and industry who's who's. Engineering guru Lester Camacho (Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac) recorded an made his producing debut with this album recorded in southern California at Rolling Thunder Studio and Threshold Studio. Also lending a hand in production, mixing, and oversight was the great and ubiquitous Alan Parsons (Pink Floyd, Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Alan Parsons Project), whose signature touch has enhanced what will certainly be the band's best recording effort to date. The band is currently planning a lengthy tour which will place them in front of new audiences nationwide and abroad, and have also been writing new material to round out their frantic and energetic stage shows. irradio has been on many compilations, such as Insound, Magnet, and Amp and featured in magazines such as Amp, San Diego Music Matters, and Transworld Skateboarding. They have also been nominated for a San Diego Music Award for two consecutive years.

Along with bringing an original sound and influence to the collective musical table, the band's message is one of truth, creativity, individuality, and unity. All four players share values emphasizing community, urgency, celebration, revolution and preservation, but their personalities are very much their own. Although their lives have emerged from different paths, their collective goal is the same: irradio wants to bring their message to YOU in YOUR home town. irradio's live shows, which must be experienced to be understood, leave audiences sweaty and over-exerted and can only be described as body movement. The band treats each live experience as a laboratory for experimenting with new ways to interpret their material, typically playing sets infused with constant sound/beats and meaningful improvisation, leaving audiences gasping for breath while begging for more.
